BASEBALL Van Horn to speak at Tip-Off Club

Arkansas baseball Coach Dave Van Horn will be the guest speaker at today’s Downtown Tip-Off Club meeting at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel in North Little Rock.

Lunch will be served at 11:15 a.m. and the program will begin at noon. Admission is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.

SAU sweeps series in Texas

Southern Arkansas defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 7-3 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep.

The Muleriders broke the game open with four runs on three hits in the third inning. Jackson McCurdy had a RBI double to right-center field to score Tyler Cameron. Justin Buchanan doubled to left with the bases loaded to score all three runners.

UAM splits with Mankato

Arkansas-Monticello lost to Minnesota State-Mankato 4-3 in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday in Monticello, before winning the second game 8-5.

Travis Steinke hit a three-run double in the first inning of the Game 2 victory and then added three runs in the fourth inning, and one each in the fifth and the sixth to top the Mavericks (1-1), who are ranked No. 1 in two NCAA Division II polls and No. 2 in two others. D’Marco Poindexter had three hits and two RBI, while Ben Agredano and Austin Braddock each drove in a run for the Boll Weevils (5-1).

Harding opens with two victories

Harding opened its season with a doubleheader sweep of Lyon College on Sunday in Searcy, beating the Scots 1-0 and 3-2.

Matt Calhoun hit a home run in the bottom of the ninth to give Harding (2-0) the victory in the first. In the second game, Noah Chandler went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI, driving in a run with a groundout in the first and when he reached on a fielder’s choice in the fifth to complete the sweep of the Scots (1-4).

UAFS sweeps Henderson State

Arkansas-Fort Smith combined for 11 runs and 19 hits in sweeping Henderson State in a doubleheader on Sunday in Arkadelphia, winning the first game 4-3 and the second game 7-3.

Ryan Justus and Brennan Rogers each had two hits for the Lions (2-0) in the first game, while Curtis Clark had two hits and drove in four runs in the second.

BASKETBALL Primm leads Warriors

Colton Primm had 21 points, 11 rebounds and blocked 2 shots to help Hendrix to a 71-60 victory over Millsaps College on Sunday in Conway.

Luke Vance added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Warriors (10-11, 4-6 Southern Athletic Association). Hank Aldous scored 12 points off the bench, Jordan Barrett had nine and Gabe Grum had eight assists.

Hendrix women edges Millsaps

Hendrix College forward Jamie Tate scored 10 points and had 19 rebounds to become the school’s 14th player to score 1,000 career points in its 57-54 victory over Millsaps College on Sunday in Conway.

SOFTBALL Arkansas closes weekend with loss

Lindsey Cargill and Jordan Strickland each hit home runs to give No. 16 Baylor a 5-0 victory over Arkansas on Sunday in the Sportco Kick-Off Classic in Las Vegas.

The Razorbacks (2-3) were held to two hits by Baylor (4-1) pitcher Whitney Canion, who struck out 6 and walked 3 in 7 innings pitched.

UCA falls to LSU

LSU scored four runs in the first inning of an 8-1 victory over Central Arkansas on Sunday in the Tiger Classic in Baton Rouge.

LSU (4-2) added two runs in the third inning and another in the fourth. UCA (1-4) scored its only run in the fifth when Sam Forrest drove in Amy Gunnels with a double.

UAM lets lead slip to Lincoln

Arkansas-Monticello scored three runs in the second inning, but gave up three in the third and one in the fifth of a 4-3 loss to Lincoln in Arkadelphia.

Kali Piha went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Beth Johnson went 1 for 4 with 1 RBI for the Cotton Blossoms (2-2).

Emporia State beats Harding

Emporia State scored a run in the third and two in the fourth and fifth innings to hand Harding its first loss of the season on Sunday in Stephenville, Texas.

Harding, which outhit Emporia State 7-6, scored its only run in the seventh when Jessica Greene singled home Brooke Lynn Moon. Courtney Derrick had three hits for Harding (2-1).

TRACK AND FIELD UCA runs in Alabama

Central Arkansas runners won two distance races at the Samford University Multi and Invitational Meet on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.

Sophomore Brooke Cassar won the women’s 3,000-meter run in 9 minutes, 46.12 seconds, breaking her school record by more than 30 seconds. Sophomore Corentin Louis won the men’s mile run in 4:13.39, breaking his school record of 4:17.73.
