West Fayetteville Mexican restaurant offers 25 percent discount

El Paso Mexican Grille and Cantina is the latest endeavor by the owners of the Mexican restaurant Acambaro in Lowell. Located at 3980 Wedington Drive in Fayetteville, El Paso features a menu that blends authentic Mexican cuisine and Tex-Mex-style fare. The kitchen focuses on using quality meats and fresh ingredients to produce made-from-scratch meals, from the guacamole to the tamales to the sopapillas.

Lunch specials are served 10 a.m.-3 p.m. daily and prices range from $4.95-$6.49. El Paso is currently offering a 25 percent discount advertised on their website elpasomexicangrillcantina.com. Local cafe opens new location, offers $1 drinks in travel mugs

Jammin Java opened in August 2002 in the Old Post Office building on the Fayetteville Square. The local cafe now has several Fayetteville locations that serve premium roast coffee, espresso drinks, pastries and deli fare.

The most recent store front opened at the corner of West Avenue and Lafayette Street in the newly built Sterling Frisco student apartments. This shop serves all the classics featured at the main storefront located behind Tim's Pizza on the Square. Sterling Frisco is also offering customizable macaroni and cheese with add-ons such as sliced jalapenos, grilled onion and garlic, bacon, smoked turkey, grilled ham or chopped beef.

Vineyard with event venue and chapel opening in spring

Sassafras Springs Vineyard is a new venue located at 6461 Guy Terry Road in northeast Fayetteville that will serve Arkansas craft beer and wines, along with wines from Missouri and the West Coast.

Owners Gene and Cheryl Long are renovating a 16-acre horse farm once owned by former University of Arkansas football coach Houston Nutt.

There will be a tasting room with an expansive deck overlooking Sassafras spring, a 3,500-square-foot entertainment space and a wedding chapel.

The winery anticipates a grand opening this spring, with the completion of the chapel and event hall to follow.

Art provided by Leanne Laine the walls and will also be available for purchase.

Long-time drinking establishment applies for wine permit

Maxine's Tap Room in Fayetteville has applied for a wholesale wine permit, as reported by Arkansas Business.

The long-standing tavern opened in 1950 by Maxine Miller does currently sell wine, but it is purchased at a liquor store at retail cost.

The permit was applied for by current owner Andrea Foren the week of Jan. 17. The notification of application must be posted on the front door of the bar, at 107 N. Block Ave., for 30 days before the Alcohol Beverage Control Board will issue the permit.
