TheatreSquared will stage Good People in Fayetteville

Fayetteville theater company TheatreSquared will stage Good People by David Lindsay-Abaire, Thursday-March 9 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday - at Walton Arts Center’s Nadine Baum Studios, 505 W. Spring St., Fayetteville.

Stage and film actress Rebecca Harris plays a sharptongued South Boston single mom, Margie, who, struggling to make rent, turns to an old flame (Broadway veteran Sean Patrick Reilly) who has left buried his “Southie” past along with a number of old secrets.

SoNA valentine

Soprano Tami Petty, mezzo-soprano Sara Murphy, tenor Enrique Pina and bass-baritone Timothy Jones will join the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas and conductor Paul Haas for a Valentine’s pops program of love-centered arias and ensembles at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Baum Walker Hall of Fayetteville’s Walton Arts Center, 495 W. Dickson St.

Pina will sing “Ah! Levetoi, soleil!” from Charles Gounod’s Romeo and Juliet; “Che gelida manina” from La Boheme by Giacomo Puccini; and “Nessun dorma” from Puccini’s Turandot. Petty will sing two Puccini arias: “O mio babbino caro” from Gianni Schicchi and “Mi chiamano Mimi” from La Boheme.

Jones’ part of the program will include “Madamina! il catalogo” from Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and “Bella siccome un angelo” from Don Pasquale by Gaetano Donizetti.

And Murphy will sing “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle” (the “Habanera”) from Carmen by Georges Bizet; “Mon coeur s’ouvre à ta voix” from Samson et Dalilah by Camille Saint-Saens; and “I Hate Men” from Cole Porter’s musical Kiss Me, Kate.

Pina and Jones will team up for “Au fond du temple saint,” the famous duet from Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers. Petty and Murphy will sing the duet “Mira, o Norma” from Norma by Vincenzo Bellini. And the four will sing the quartet “Bella figlia dell’amore” from Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi.

Pool party

The Fort Smith Little Theatre, 401 N. Sixth St., Fort Smith, will stage The Dixie Swim Club by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, with a gala opening at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and subsequent shows at 7:30 p.m.Friday-Saturday and Feb. 19-22 and 2 p.m. Feb. 16 and 23. Chocolate celebration

The Greater Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce will hold its 10th annual Chocolate Lovers’ Festival, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday atthe Best Western Inn of the Ozarks Convention Center, 207 W. Van Buren St. (U.S. 62 West), Eureka Springs. Guests can sample from a wide range of confections; the festival will also feature cash-prize contests for chocolate recipes and decorating; a silent auction; and displays by area merchants. Cliburn winner

Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko, winner of the 2013 Van Cliburn Piano Competition, will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.

Kholodenko will play the Piano Concerto No. 21 in C major, K.467, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with theConway Symphony Orchestra and conductor Geoffrey Robson, and the first set of Forgotten Melodies, op.38, by Nicolai Medtner.

Filmmaker’s visit

Filmmaker, artist and writer Miranda July will be spending most of the week in Conway, including a discussion on the making of books, shoes, friends, movies, performances and personal protection devices in a multimedia presentation titled “Lost Child!,” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Staples Auditorium, Hendrix College, 1600 Washington Ave., Conway.
