Police: Elkins Man Died After Icy-Road Crash

FAYETTEVILLE — An Elkins man died Tuesday after losing control of his pickup on an icy highway near Springdale, according to Arkansas State Police.

A news release issued by police identified the man as 62-year-old James R. Oxford.

Oxford was traveling along Arkansas 303, when his pickup crossed the center line at a curve and went off of the roadway, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Oxford’s 2004 Ram traveled up an embankment before going airborne and crossing over Washington County 97. The pickup traveled another 50 feet before striking a grove of small trees and stopping, according to the report.

The report lists the weather as “clear” but states the road had “patchy ice.”

Oxford was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center, where he later died. His next-of-kin was notified the next day, according to state police.
