FAYETTEVILLE — A West Fork couple faces felony charges after police discovered an illegal still in their home last month.

Police arrested Margaret Smith, 44, and Frank Adams, 49, both of 21 Newlin Road on Saturday in connection with felony possession of an illicit still.

West Fork Police Chief John Collins and Officer Kenneth Ingalls was called to 21 Newlin Road on Jan. 10 for a report of an attempted suicide, according to an arrest warrant.

Smith told family members she planned to kill herself by parking her car in the garage and turning on the engine, according to the report.

Investigators said Smith was upset because Adams was looking at Internet pornography and found her online profile. She said Adams wanted a divorce, police said.

While talking with Smith, police said they noticed a still in plain view.

According to the report, the still included a white, 5-gallon bucket with a copper worm and pressure cooker. The bucket and worm, had a heavy odor of an “intoxicating beverage,” police said.

Smith and Adams were released from the Washington County Detention Center on $2,500 bond Saturday.
