New Orleans toes line, trips up UCA

Cory Hill scored 20 points to lead New Orleans to a 88-79 victory over Central Arkansas on Saturday afternoon at the Farris Center in Conway.

Despite shooting nearly 54 percent in the second half, UCA (6-16, 3-8 Southland Conference) was outscored 14-5 in the final four minutes when New Orleans made 10 of 10 free throws. Meanwhile, UCA made 11 of 19 free throws (57.9 percent) for the game. New Orleans was 25 of 34 from the line.

LaQuentin Miles led UCA with a game-high 28 points on 12-of-17 shooting. Phabian Glasco had 12 points. Jalen Jackson led UCA with seven rebounds.

New Orleans out rebounded UCA 44-32.

Tevin Broyles and Gill each had 12 points for the Privateers (9-10, 6-5), who are in their first season in the Southland Conference after spending last season as an NCAA Division I independent.

The Privateers shot 46.8 percent (29 of 62) from the field and made 25 of 34 (73.5 percent) free throws. New Orleans led 41-40 at halftime.

SOUTHLAND WOMEN CENTRAL ARKANSAS 62, NEW ORLEANS 30

Maggie Proffitt scored 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 3 three-pointers, in Central Arkansas’ rout of New Orleans at the Farris Center inConway.

Courtney Duever had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Sugar Bears (15-7, 9-2), who remained in first place in the Southland Conference.

UCA led 46-16 at halftime, shooting 60.7 percent (17 of 28). The Sugar Bears shot 47.9 percent (23 of 48) overall and out rebounded New Orleans 41-25.

New Orleans (0-22, 0-11), the only winless team in NCAA Division I, was led by Danielle Davis with seven points.

SWAC MEN ARK.-PINE BLUFF 64, ALABAMA A&M 61

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (7-15, 5-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference) won its third consecutive game, beating Alabama A&M (8-12, 5-5) at the H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff.

Marcel Mosley led UAPB with 20 points. Daniel Broughton and Tevin Hammond each had 11 points.

SWAC WOMEN ARK.-PINE BLUFF 79, ALABAMA A&M 72

Cassidy Wright scored 15 points coming off the bench as Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-17, 2-8 Southwestern Athletic Conference) beat Alabama A&M (3-17, 1-9) at H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff.

Christina Lasane scored 14 points and Carlisha Walker added 12.
