Wrightsville man hit, killed by train

A 75-year-old Wrightsville man who had Alzheimer’s disease was found dead early Monday after likely being hit by a train, the Pulaski County sheriff’s office said.

According to deputies, a conductor on a Union Pacific train was operating the northbound locomotive in the vicinity of 145th and East Front streets on the north side of Wrightsville. He was slowing the train around 4 a.m. as he approached the Higgins Switch when he saw what appeared to be a human body lying near the tracks.

The conductor left the train when it stopped, walked back down the tracks and discovered the body of Curtis Grisby. He then notified his dispatcher, who notified the sheriff’s office.

It is believed that Grisby was hit by another train, said Lt. Carl Minden, a sheriff’s office spokesman.

Family members identified Grisby after hearing about the accident, Minden said. They said Grisby had Alzheimer’s disease and lived near where his body was discovered, he said.
