Police Take Applications For Citizen’s Police Academy

Residents interested in how Rogers police are trained and work have until Thursday to sign up for the 2014 Citizen’s Police Academy, according to a news release.

The free academy aims to involve citizens in the safety and welfare of their community and helps people better understand police. The academy provides working knowledge of police operations. Participants learn how police are trained and the daily responsibilities of officers, according to the release.

Participants learn basic criminal law, patrol tactics and familiarity with firearms. They learn how to process a crime scene, go on a ride along with an officer and watch a SWAT demonstration.

The academy, which starts Feb. 20, is 10 weeks long with classes meeting on Thursdays. The session includes one Saturday session.

Anyone interested should apply online or at the Rogers Police Department by Thursday. Applicants should have no criminal convictions in the last three years and be at least 21 years old.
