DAVIDSONVILLE HISTORIC STATE PARK

Location: From Black Rock (west of Walnut Ridge) on U.S. 63, take Arkansas 361 north 5.76 miles to the park entrance. Park at the playground near the visitor’s center.

Length: Begin with Trappers Lake Trail and Black River Trail for an approximate 1.5-mile loop. The park’s four trails total about 3.25 easy miles.

Main attractions: Hikers are walking through Arkansas’ early history in this gem of a park. The trails cover two cemeteries and the 1815 site of the frontier town that held the Arkansas Territory’s first post office, courthouse and land office on the banks of the scenic Black River.

Hazards: If conditions are favorable, the park will hold a prescribed burn before March 1. Call (870) 892-4708 before you go to ensure the trails are open.
