Orange stay unbeaten with OT victory

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Jerami Grant scored eight points in overtime to finish with a career-high 24 and Jim Boeheim’s No. 2 Syracuse stayed unbeaten, topping Mike Krzyzewski’s No. 17 Duke 91-89 on Saturday in a matchup of the two winningest coaches in Division I history.

C.J. Fair scored a career-best 28 as Syracuse (21-0, 8-0 ACC) set a school record for consecutive victories to start a season.

Playing in front of a crowd of 35,46, the largest ever at the Carrier Dome, Syracuse remained one of two undefeated Division I teams, along with No. 4 Wichita State.

Duke’s Rasheed Sulaimon beat the buzzer in regulation with an off-balance three-pointer that tied it at 78-78. The Blue Devils led 87-84 with 80 seconds left in overtime before Syracuse rallied.

Jabari Parker had 15 points and nine rebounds before fouling out in regulation for Duke (17-5, 6-3).

In other ACC games Saturday, Maryland guard Dez Wells scored 19 points to lead the Terrapins to an 80-60 victory over host Virginia Tech. … Eric Atkins hit a three-pointer with 1 second left in overtime after missing a potential game-winning free throw in regulation to give Notre Dame a 76-73 victory over visiting Boston College, ending a three-game losing streak for the Irish. … Marcus Georges-Hunt scored a career-high 23 points and Georgia Tech held on to beat host Wake Forest 79-70. … James Michael McAdoo had 16 points and 13 rebounds to help host North Carolina beat rival North Carolina State 84-70. … K.J. McDaniels scored 26 points as Clemson defeated host Florida State 53-49 on the road. … Rion Brown scored 15 points as Miami snapped a three-game losing streak and defeated visiting Norfolk State 64-49.

Saint Joseph’s rallies

PHILADELPHIA - Halil Kanacevic scored 18 points and Saint Joseph’s broke away from a late tie to beat No. 21 Massachusetts 73-68 Saturday.

UMass rallied from a 16-point deficit in the second half and made it 68-all in the final minute. Saint Joseph’s hit five foul shots to win.

Kanacevic added six rebounds and five assists. Ronald Roberts scored 17 and De-Andre Bembry had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks (15-6, 5-2 Atlantic 10), who have won 11 of 13.

Derrick Gordon scored 21 and Chaz Williams finished with 16 points and 10 assists for the Minutemen (17-4, 4-3). UMass has lost three of four, with all three losses coming on the road.

In other Atlantic 10 games Saturday, Melvin Johnson and Briante Weber each scored 14 points to lead six players in double figures and host Virginia Commonwealth beat rival Richmond 81-70, the Rams’ 16th consecutive home victory. … Devin Oliver scored 17 points as host Dayton ended George Washington’s five-game winning streak 75-65. … Rob Loe scored 10 of his career-high 23 points in overtime to help No. 19 Saint Louis edge visiting George Mason 87-81. … Steve Zack scored 16 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as host La Salle topped Duquesne 71-63, snapping a three-game losing streak. ... Branden Frazier finished with 25 points to lead Fordham over Rhode Island 85-79.

BIG EAST Georgetown ends streak

NEW YORK - Markel Starks scored 16 points and Georgetown ended a five-game losing streak with a 64-60 victory over short-handed and seventh-ranked Michigan State on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.

Jabril Trawick came up with two big plays late for the Hoyas (12-9) in a late-season nonconference game that was part of the New York area’s celebration of today’s Super Bowl.

Michigan State (19-3) had a tough time finding its touch in playing without injured frontcourt players Adreian Payne and Branden Dawson.

Gary Harris started connecting for the Spartans and his three-pointer brought the Spartans within 56-54 with 1:32 to play.

Harris led the Spartans with 20 points, including going 4 of 10 from three-point range.

In other Big East games Saturday, Jaren Sina had a four-point play and a three-pointer that helped Seton Hall pull away for a 68-60 victory that ended Xavier’s 13-game winning streak at home. … D’Angelo Harrison scored 27 points and was 6 of 11 from three-point range as St. John’s beat Marquette 74-59 at Madison Square Garden, the Red Storm’s fourth victory in their last five games. … Bryce Cotton scored 28 points to lead Providence to a 77-72 victory over host DePaul.

BIG TEN Ohio State wins on road

MADISON, Wis. - Aaron Craft scored all seven of his points in the final 4 minutes, LaQuinton Ross added 13 for the game, and No. 24 Ohio State got a confidence-boosting victory on the road Saturday by beating No. 14 Wisconsin 59-58.

Amadeo Della Valle added 11 points for the Buckeyes (17-5, 4-5 Big Ten) in a bruising back-and-forth affair with the Badgers (17-5, 4-5).

Sam Dekker missed a three-pointer at the buzzer for Wisconsin, which suffered a third consecutive home loss.

Freshman Nigel Hayes led the Badgers with 17 points.

In another Big Ten game Saturday, Drew Crawford scored 17 points and JerShon Cobb pitched in 15 points to help Northwestern win its third game in a row on the road, 55-54 over host Minnesota. ... Gabriel Olaseni had 15 points and 12 rebounds and No. 15 Iowa overcame Illinois’ furious comeback to pull out an 81-74 victory.
