Rotary Club

“Treasures of the Bible and Holy Lands,” an exhibit including fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls and pages of the Gutenberg Bible, will be presented Monday at the Holiday Inn in Springdale as part of the Springdale Rotary Club’s weekly meeting.

The exhibit will feature items from the special collections of Azusa Pacific University and The Green Collection.

The luncheon will include a presentation on the collection by Robert Duke, associate professor of Biblical studies at Azusa Pacific University. Duke is a Distinguished Green Scholar and a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar.

Ken Otto, special collections librarian, will be bringing and accompanying items from Azusa Pacific University. Amy Van Dyke, educational programs administrator, will bring items from the Green Collection.

The doors open at 11:30 a.m., and a luncheon and the speaker follow. The exhibit will be open from 1 to 2 p.m. The event is open to the public, and tickets are available for $35 each. The lunch is included in the price.

Scandinavian Club

The Scandinavian Club of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 1 p.m. Feb. 14 at the John Powell Annex of the Springdale Senior Center at Park and Grove in Springdale. Everyone is welcome.

Railway Society

At the Feb. 20 meeting of the National Railway Historical Society, Bob Stark and Al Kaeppel will present a free program on GPS mapping of the long defunct Ozark and Cherokee Central Railroad in western Washington County.

Sons of Revolution

The Col. Daniel McKissick Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will meet from 11 a.m.

Archeologists

The Kokoci Chapter of the Arkansas Archeological Society will meet at 7 p.m.

Feb. 11. James Zimmer-Dauphinee, University of Arkansas anthropology graduate student, will discuss how electrical resistivity tomography was used to explore the internal structure of mounds A and D at Toltec Mounds Archeological State Park, home to the larges surviving earthen mounds in Arkansas.

The presentation is free and open to the public. The meeting will be held at the Arkansas Archeological Survey building, 2475 N. Hatch Ave. in Fayetteville, off of Garland Avenue across from Agri Park.

Andante Club

The Andante MusicClub of Bella Vista invites the public to “Melodies of Love,” a musical program featuring some of the great love songs of the 20th century. These romantic classics will be performed by Andante Music Club members Willete Atkins, Jo Evans, Gloria Grilk, Jan Schweitzer, Jackie Gross, Martha Sheets, Karen Sasine and special guest Ron Sasine.

German-Americans

The German-American Club of Northwest Arkansas will meet at 2 p.m. Feb. 9 in the Quarter Square Shopping Center at 1400 Walnut St. in Rogers. Visitors are invited to celebrate “Fasching” (Mardi Gras). Masks and costumes are welcome.

Ladies Day Out

The Bella Vista Ladies Day Out participants will tour the Fort Smith Regional Art Museum Feb. 18 to see the “Valentines: The Art of Romance” exhibit and then have lunch at the Williamsburg Kitchen. They will meet at the parking lot across the street from the Arvest Bank at Town Center in Bella Vista at 9 a.m. sharp and carpool from there.

Christian Women

“Love Is In the Air” is the theme of the Bella Vista Christian Women’s Club brunch from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Feb. 11. The feature will be the Persnickety Ladies Quartet. The guest speaker is Linda Apple of Fayetteville sharing her story “Forgive and Live.”

The brunch will be held at the Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd. An all-American style breakfast buffet is served.

The cost is $10.

The organization is nondenominational, and the public is welcome.

Pieces ‘N Patches

Pieces ‘N Patches Quilt Group will meet Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers.

Jean Justice will present a program titled “In A Woman’s Voice,” a story of her grandmother.

Aquarium Society

“Some Common Fishes of Northwest Arkansas” will be the topic at the Northwest Arkansas Aquarium Society’s Saturday meeting presented by Art Brown of the University of Arkansas.

He will discuss the fishes’ range, abundance and suitability for aquariums. The program begins at 7 p.m., but participants are invited to come at 6:30 p.m. to meet with other hobbyists.

The group meets on the second Saturday of every month in the community room of the Rogers Police Station, at the corner of Dixieland and New Hope roads in Rogers. Admission and refreshments are free.

There are door prizes for new faces and a mini auction at meeting’s end. Everyone is welcome.

Meet a charter member of Quilters United In Learning Together of Northwest Arkansas at the 7 p.m. Feb. 27 meeting at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2898 S. 48th St. in Springdale.

Well-known quilter Heather Thomas will present the March 28 program. She will also teach a thread painting workshop on March 28.

Public Relations

The Arkansas Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America installed its 2014 officers Jan. 17 at its monthly meeting at the Little Rock Club. The new officers and members of the Board of Directors will serve from January 2013 to January 2014.

Taking over the top leadership role is Eileen Denne, APR, senior director of communications for the Arkansas Pharmacists Association.

Denne, the chapter’s incoming president, has more than 25 years of communications experience and also served as president of PRSA’s National Capital Chapter.
