The Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks in Fayetteville is accepting submissions for the local Veterans Creative Arts Festival. Each year, veterans from across the United States enter and compete in the National Veterans Creative Arts Program.

Veterans can submit work in five divisions - art, creative writing, dance, drama and music. Entries for the local contest will be accepted through Feb. 22.

A reception for the local contest is set for 1 p.m. March 7 in the VA auditorium in Fayetteville. First-place winners from the local contest will to on to compete at the national level.

  • ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTENational tours to stop in Fort Smith

Two national touring shows will make stops in Fort Smith in February as part of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith’s Season of Entertainment 33. A performance of Man of La Mancha is set for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, while Bring It On: The Musical is set for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17.

Man of La Mancha retells the Miguel Cervantes classic Don Quixote, the comedic story of a man who has read so many chivalric novels he becomes convinced he’s a knight. The show has won five Tony Awards.

Bring It On: The Musical, which earned two Tony nominations, was inspired by the cheerleading movie of the same name.

Both performances will take place at the Arkansas Best Corp. Performing Arts Center in Fort Smith. Tickets cost $32-$35.

The Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville will host seven performances of I Love Lucy Live on Stage from Tuesday through Feb. 9. Shows are planned at 7 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. next Saturday and 2 p.m. Feb. 9.

The stage hit features an adaptation of one of the beloved American TV show I Love Lucy. The show features two episodes from the show - “The Benefit” and “Lucy Has Her Eyes Examined.” Tickets cost $29-$59. More information is available by calling (479) 443-5600 or online at waltonartscenter.org.
