SILOAM SPRINGS -- Rogers Heritage girls basketball coach Kevin Ramey was hoping for a solid effort against a good nonconference opponent before the Christmas break.

Siloam Springs had other ideas.

The Lady Panthers used a tough zone defense to hold Heritage to just three first-half field goals and pulled away for the 48-28 victory Friday at the Panther Activity Center.

Siloam Springs (6-3) got a balanced scoring effort led by Mayse Pippin's 11 points, while Baily Cameron added nine and Bailee Owens chipped in eight.

Ramey said the Lady Panthers were just too much for his team.

"Give credit to Siloam, they were aggressive and had us on our heels," Ramey said. "We never attacked them and went after them. The one glaring stat for us in the first half was we had zero offensive rebounds. That's pure effort and intensity.

"What's disappointing is we thought we were going to come over here and get a good preseason test. I thought our kids were ready to get after it and battle. We didn't show up very well. I thought Siloam's passion for the game was way advanced to ours. We just kinda jogged through the whole thing. On the road, we weren't good enough to be competitive.

The Lady Panthers took charge early with a 12-0 run in the final four minutes of the first quarter. Cameron started the run with a 3-pointer in the corner and added a stickback off a missed free throw. Taylor Gay's runner off the glass finished off the run for a 14-5 Siloam Springs lead.

Siloam Springs led 23-12 at halftime and limited the Lady War Eagles to just three first-half field goals. The Lady Panthers then opened the third quarter with a 9-2 spurt for a commanding 32-14 lead.

Lady Panthers coach Tim Rippy said his team's zone defense was solid against Heritage.

"It was a good week of practice this week because we got to experiment with some new stuff," Rippy said. "We finally had a week where we had four days of practice without a game. That's the first time that's happened really since the season started.

"We installed the zone. With our length, that really bothered Heritage. Teams with smaller guards, I think that's going to be an asset to us. It gives us one more look, so we used it quite a bit tonight to work on it. I thought it really kind of took them out of rhythm early. When we went back to man we were fine. We worked on that this week as well.

The Panthers hit back-to-back 3-pointers to start overtime, then hit free throws in the final two minutes to earn the hard-fought victory.

Guard Tucker Gambill swished the 3-pointer to start overtime. After a Heritage miss, Ramon Lambert drained another 3-pointer for a six-point advantage.

Siloam Springs (6-3), which struggled at the free-throw line much of the night found the range in the final two minutes of overtime. The Panthers hit just 17 of 30 free throws for the game, but nailed eight-of-10 over the final 1 minute, 33 seconds.

Lambert led three Panthers in double figures with a game-high 19 points, while Kyle Snavely added 12 and Tyler Newton chipped in 10. Connor Hirsh led Heritage (8-2) with 16, while Lex Hobbs added 13 before fouling out late in the fourth quarter.

Heritage trailed by five with 1:19 left in the fourth quarter, but clawed back with some good defensive pressure.

Hirsh made the first of two free throws to tie the game with 11.1 seconds left, but missed the second. However, Gambill missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer.
