Springdale (4-6): Owens 21, Mahar 17, Gause 16, Tutt 14, Burton 2.

Alma (7-1): Lee 31, Folkerts 25, Parker 12, Friddle 7, Corder 3.

Lee and Folkerts combined for 56 points in the game and scored 13 of the Airedales' 16 points in overtime to lift Alma to a 78-70 win.

Springdale (4-6) led 60-55 with less than three minutes left. Alma took a lead with less than a minute left, but Bulldog all-state guard Chris Owens answered with a tough fade-away jumper from the foul line to put Springdale ahead 62-61 with 34.5 seconds left.

The Bulldogs got a stop and Owens was fouled, but made just one of two at the line with 8.8 seconds left. Alma's Braylon Parker drove the length of the floor, drew a foul and knocked down two free throws with 2.4 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

And then Lee and Folkerts took over.

"They made some plays," Springdale coach Brad Stamps said. "I felt like we let one slip away. We had it in regulation."

Lee scored a game-high 31 points and Folkerts added 25 for Alma (7-1), which owns nonconference wins over 7A-West schools Springdale and Bentonville.

Owens scored a team-high 21 for Springdale and kept the Bulldogs within striking distance while they played without junior forward Kyler Mahar, who was plagued by foul trouble most of the night. Mahar was still able to score 17, but Springdale had to survive for key junctures of the game with him on the bench.

"It's a huge deal for us to play with him on the floor," Stamps said. "We're a completely different team without him."

Senior guards TreShawn Gause and Tyler Tutt scored 16 and 14 points, respectively. The Bulldogs came out on fire, generating open looks with crisp ball movement and jumping out to an early 15-5 lead.

Alma rallied from the early hole and led 34-28 at halftime. The Airedales trailed for a large portion of the second half, but found a way to battle back and send the game to overtime for a big bounce-back win after a disappointing home loss to Paris.

"Any time you get beat on your home court early in the season, even against a team that comes in and plays really well against you, it gets your attention," Alma coach Stan Flenor said. "We got focused and got back to the things where we can have some success. This team did that tonight."

Springdale doesn't have time to dwell on the loss. The Bulldogs will play Class 6A power Jonesboro today in North Little Rock.

Girls: Springdale 73, Alma 67

Springdale High started the game red-hot and built a big lead, then survived an Alma rally to hang on for a 73-67 road win and snap a two-game losing streak.

The Lady Bulldogs (6-3) scored on their first 10 possessions and shot 82 percent in the first quarter. Junior Ja'Vonda Daniels scored a game-high 19 points as the Lady Bulldogs (6-3) won while playing without junior all-state point guard Kierra Lang.

But it didn't wind up an easy win despite Springdale jumping out to a 23-10 lead in the opening quarter. Alma knocked down 10 3-pointers as it came back to take several brief leads in the second half.

Springdale aided the Alma comeback by committing 12 of its 16 turnovers in the second half and only hitting 16 of 29 free throws. Alma was able to make part of its run with a trio of Springdale starters on the bench in foul trouble.

"I go from and eight-person rotation down to a five," Springdale coach Heather Hunsucker said. "I had to change defenses and go back into a man, because we were tired. I think fatigue had a lot to do with what you saw. We were limited on defense, started turning the ball over due to fatigue and we were missing shots."

Chasidee Owens scored 13 points and had nine rebounds, while Desiree Mack scored 12 while playing through a stomach bug. Peanut Brown had 11 and Ryan Goodsell 10.

Sophomore Bailey Jones hit five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 17 for Alma (4-3).
