Youth troupe raises money with holiday spoof

Fort Smith's Young Actors Guild has alumni at Second City in Chicago, majoring in biomedical engineering at the University of Arkansas and everywhere in between. So when Missy Gipson, the youth theater company's director, puts out a call for an alumni fundraiser, it makes for an epic -- and entertaining -- homecoming.

Last year, the alumni-written script was titled "A Very Weasley Christmas."

This year, it's "A (Fairly) Fairytale Christmas," and Gipson promises it will be an "hilarious" spoof on the popular animated movies of recent years, based on the premise of the heroes and the villains showing up at the same "Frozen" holiday party.

"It's recommended for ages 10 and up," she says. "We don't want a lot of 6-year-olds in Elsa costumes coming. They do not need to see this Elsa and Anna!"

The most recent call from one of the writers was to ask Gipson to add a "rolling office chair and a fake cat" to the props list.

"I've quit even asking," she says.
