Haircuts Offered For Samaritan Center Support

ROGERS -- Gary Townzen, a Rogers alderman and barber, is setting his annual free haircut day Saturday in support of the Samaritan Community Center.

This is the 28th year Townzen has offered haircuts as a fundraiser to feed hungry children.

"You would be surprised how many children there are in Rogers that don't have enough food to eat," Townzen said.

The haircuts are free, but Townzen accepts donations. Money raised will go to the Samaritan Community Center to buy food for children and families, Townzen said. Townzen also sells calenders with historical photos of Rogers each year. Profit from the calendars also go to the center.

"I enjoy free haircut day. It's the best day of the year for me," Townzen said. Vic Bradford, a retired barber, and Debbie Trammel, a hair stylist, also volunteer to cut hair at Townzen's shop, 104 S. First St.

Free hamburger and hot dogs, with chips and drinks, are also part of the event.

Haircuts begin at 8 a.m. and will continue as long as there are customers. Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
