Marshall, a sophomore running back and kickoff returner from Osceola, isn't eligible to try to join an NFL team until the 2016 season. Bielema said he and Marshall talked for 45 minutes Monday night going over possible options.

"He's never going to have the opportunity to play for the Razorbacks again, but hopefully this will be a steppingstone to something in the right direction instead of the wrong direction," Bielema told ESPN.com.

Marshall was suspended twice this season for undisclosed disciplinary reasons. He missed games against Georgia, Alabama-Birmingham and Mississippi State, then returned against LSU before Bielema suspended him indefinitely. He missed the final two regular-season games against Ole Miss and Missouri.

Bielema said after Marshall's first suspension that another issue would result in Marshall being dismissed from the program.

"I know we both shed a tear when it happened," Bielema told ESPN.com "But the biggest thing is he needs to learn from it and move forward."

Bielema said shortly after Marshall's second suspension that he was "hot" in a meeting with Marshall, but that he wanted to help him.

"The good Lord gave him some things that he needs to take advantage of to get a degree and to have success in life," Bielema said at news conference Nov. 24. "So I'm going to do everything I can to make that situation be as real and as good as it possibly can."

Marshall, who came to Arkansas as a safety before moving to tailback last season, played in 14 games for the Razorbacks with one start. He rushed 42 times for 265 yards and 1 touchdown, had 28 kickoff returns for 693 yards and 1 touchdown and 6 receptions for 37 yards.
