Nonprofits boost health, families, self-esteem

As we do every year, NWA Media has invited the nonprofit organizations that help our community all year to ask for help in return.

Their wish lists will appear in the Our Town section every Thursday through Christmas.

Family Network

What: For 20 years, the program has offered parenting education and family support to families who are at risk for low educational achievement, poverty and abuse. In-home and tailored to the need of each parent, mentors provide services prior to the birth of a first child and throughout the first three years of each child's life.

Wish list: Toys and books for ages birth to 3, pajamas, fleece blankets, pacifiers, bath wash, towels and wash cloths, diaper cream, toddler tableware, sippy cups, baby food, bibs, finger toothbrushes, drawer and cabinet safety latches, plug protectors, door knob covers, parents-gift cards (for restaurants, fast food, Walmart, Target), iTune cards, gas cards and winter gloves and hats.

Horses for Healing

What: Horses for Healing provides therapeutic riding programs for physically, emotionally and/or mentally challenged children and adults of Northwest Arkansas, regardless of their ability to pay. At Horses for Healing, individuals with special needs find success in the saddle and in life. Horses for Healing is located on 75 acres in rural Benton County and needed items support the program for children and the horses and land that are the backbone of the program.

Wish List: Utility trailer for four-wheeler, commercial grade hose and hose rack, 17.5-inch English saddle, storage shed, round pen, round bale feeders for horses, Rubbermaid water tanks, two-wheel Rubbermaid wheelbarrow, manure spreader, laminating machine, upholstery sewing machine, drill press, portable welder, table saw, loafing shed, power washer, farm store and retail gift cards and saddle soap.

Kendrick Fincher Hydration for Life

What: Kendrick Fincher Hydration for Life's mission is to promote proper hydration and prevent heat illness through education and supporting activities. Volunteers provide presentations and support materials to educate all ages on a healthy habit, education at health fairs and misting tents with free ice water at community events.
