New AG adds two to executive staff

Less than a month before taking office, the state's next attorney general announced Wednesday a pair of hires for her executive staff.

The state's first female attorney general, Leslie Rutledge, announced that Republican consultant and former congressional aide Carl Vogelpohl will be her chief of staff.

Vogelpohl of Little Rock was a chief of staff and district director for Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin and worked on Rutledge's campaign. He also is leading her transition team.

Rutledge tapped Cory Cox, the deputy chief counsel for the state Department of Human Services, to serve as her legislative director.

Cox previously worked as an attorney and legislative liaison for the state land commissioner, John Thurston, and worked as deputy chief counsel for Gov. Mike Huckabee.

In late November, Rutledge named Julie Benafield, a former Huckabee attorney and state insurance commissioner under Huckabee, as her chief deputy.
