Chancellor Sparks Lady Wildcats

SPRINGDALE -- Anna Francis Chancellor started the second half for Springdale Har-Ber after beginning the game on the bench.

That was Chancellor's reward for adding some fire to the Har-Ber offense.

Chancellor hit a 3-pointer to begin an 8-0 surge as Har-Ber defeated Prairie Grove 75-60 Tuesday in non-conference action at Wildcat Area. It was the home-opener for Har-Ber (7-0), which stayed unbeaten after winning the Greene County Tech tournament at Paragould over the weekend.

Chancellor entered the game with Prairie Grove and Har-Ber tied 17-17 after one quarter. The senior guard provided some instance offense with a 3-pointer and a short jumper to put Har-Ber up for good. Caryle Bohannan then made a free throw and fastbreak layup to prompt a Prairie Grove timeout with the Lady Tigers trailing 25-17.

Prairie Grove fell behind by as much as 15 points in the first half before Megan Reynolds hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to pull Prairie Grove to within 39-27 at halftime.

Springdale Har-Ber coach Sandy Wright sent Chancellor out with the starting five to begin the second half and she continued her hot hand with a 3-pointer to give Har-Ber a 44-30 lead. Chancellor finished with 10 points.

"We don't look at them as subs, but reserves who can make things happen," Wright said. "Anna did that with some big buckets off the bench. I'm really proud of her because she had good shot selection."

Bailey Schalk and Paige Redmond each finished with 19 points to lead Har-Ber. Schalk was particularly effective in the second half with 12 points, mostly on inside moves and rebounds.

Har-Ber needed Schalk's productive because Prairie Grove refused to quit after falling behind by as much as 17 points. The Lady Tigers got to within eight after two 3-pointers by Taylor Hartin, who scored 17 points and finished with five 3-pointers.

Parker Lopez scored 18 points to lead Prairie Grove (2-6).

"We kept competing and finally started to hit some shots," Prairie Grove coach Kevin Froud said. "It's a growing process for us all and there were a few times I was frustrated with some things, like not getting back (on defense). But we did a lot of good things. We just have to be more consistent."

Har-Ber finished 10 of 13 from the free-throw line while Prairie Grove was 10 of 16. The Lady Wildcats made 28 field goals and only three 3-pointers. Taylor Hartin had five of the 10 3-pointers for the Lady Tigers.
