ROGERS -- Nick Mason, Jared Turner and Alec Walker all hope to play a bigger role for the Rogers Heritage baseball team this season, but they will continue to be teammates at Ecclesia College next year.

They each signed letters of intent to play for the Royals next season during a Wednesday afternoon ceremony at Heritage High School.

Ecclesia College coach Derrion Hardie said he watched all three during summer ball and decided to offer them scholarships, after they participated in a showcase ran by the Royals earlier this fall. Turner and Walker are projected to play in the outfield in college, while Mason, a left-hander, will pitch.

Turner could also get a look on the mound, while Mason could get a chance to be a designated hitter some against left-handed pitching, Hardie said. Ecclesia College is a four-year school located in Springdale and participates in the National Christian College Athletic Association.

Heritage baseball coach Keith Kilgore is hopeful they can help the War Eagles compete in what looks to be a loaded 7A-West Conference in the spring. All three had limited varsity roles a year ago, but there's definitely potential for more, Kilgore said.

"Nick gave us some innings last year on the mound and we hope to expand on that this year," Kilgore said. "We project him as a reliever. We think Jared and Alec will get an opportunities in the outfield. Both of those guys are very athletic and have good range.

"It's a situation where hard work pays off and hopefully through that they are going to find their role for this club."

Seven members of the War Eagles baseball team have now signed to play at the collegiate level next season.
