Siloam Springs District Hosts Charter School Meetings

SILOAM SPRINGS -- The School District will hold two meetings Tuesday to discuss opening a charter school in the high school.

The meetings will be at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the seminar room at Siloam Springs High School to discuss the proposed Career Academy School of Siloam Springs.

The conversion charter school would be at Siloam Springs High School and offer a vocational program centered around industrial technology and industrial maintenance. It would teach topics such as industrial maintenance, welding, hydraulics and electronics.

"We hope to provide career opportunities to students in Siloam Springs and in the surrounding areas," said Jody Wiggins, assistant superintendent.

State law allows the Arkansas Department of Education to approve two types of charter schools -- conversion and open enrollment.
