Riverside cleanup set for Saturday

Keep North Little Rock Beautiful is heading up the city's participation in the Third Annual Great Arkansas River Clean-up from 8-11 a.m. Saturday.

North Little Rock and neighboring Little Rock will have volunteers to clean up the banks of the Arkansas River where the river passes between the two cities.

Keep North Little Rock Beautiful will provide supplies to its volunteers, including gloves, trash bags and trash grabbers. Volunteers will receive T-shirts.

There are three staging locations this year in North Little Rock: The Downtown Riverside RV Park Pavilion just east of the Interstate 30 bridge, Cook's Landing at the foot of the Big Dam Bridge, and the boat ramp at Burns Park.

In Little Rock, volunteers will meet in Murray Park.

Eight cities in Arkansas and Oklahoma are participating this year to pick up along riverbanks, and creeks and streams that feed into the Arkansas River in the two states, said Randy Naylor, Keep North Little Rock Beautiful chairman.

For more information or for individuals or groups to volunteer, contact Keep North Little Rock Beautiful at [email protected] or visit its Facebook page at facebook.com/KNLRB.

Moon gazers meet for Argenta event

Nighttime sky gazers are invited to meet in North Little Rock to mark International Observe the Moon Night at Sixth and Main streets from 7-10 p.m. Saturday. A telescope will be provided.

The free event is sponsored by the Argenta Downtown Council in partnership with the Central Arkansas Astronomical Society, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Physics and Astronomy Department and the Launch Pad of the Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub.

If inclement weather or cloud cover is forecast for Saturday evening, the event will be moved to Friday night, according to the Astronomical Society's website. More information is available at caasastro.org.

Moon Night began in 2010 as an educational outreach event from multiple NASA and astronomical organizations with 300 events in more than 40 countries, according to the society's website.
