Pickup driver faces charges in fiery death of passenger

A man was arrested Thursday morning after his passenger died in a fiery crash in Evansville, the Arkansas State Police reported.

Kevin Cain was driving a Chevrolet truck north on Arkansas 59 on Wednesday night when the vehicle ran off the road and into a ditch about 10:45 p.m., the report said. Cain overcorrected, steering the vehicle back onto the highway and across both lanes, then striking an embankment, the report said.

The truck then caught fire. Cain's passenger, Danielle Bishop, 34, of Lincoln, was killed.

Cain, 40, was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. After being treated and released, he was arrested on charges of negligent homicide, reckless driving and driving on a suspended or revoked license.

State police spokesman Bill Sadler said Cain was charged "as a result of his behavior" after the crash. Sadler could not provide further details.

"This investigation is still ongoing. It's still active. There is no toxicology report back, and that will be an important part of this," Sadler said.

Cain was booked at the Washington County jail at 8:22 a.m. He was released about an hour later.

Cain is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 24. Court records show he is a convicted felon.
