It’s been a dozen years since Pierce Brosnan last played James Bond, and in that time he’s (mostly) pursued some interesting roles seemingly designed to erase our image of him as a pretty boy TV star punching above his weight in the movies. And, to a large degree, it’s worked — roles in films like The Matador and Roman Polanski’s The Ghost Writer have done a lot to rehabilitate the former Remington Steele. But his current movie, The November Man, looks suspiciously like a 007 knock-off. In this week’s MovieStyle, our Piers Marchant holds forth on its virtues and demerits.

A pair of quirky indie films, Life After Beth and The One I Love are also opening this week. Philip Martin reviews them both, while Dan Lybarger interviews the latter’s director, Mary Steenburgen’s son Charlie McDowell.
