Cobbs released after pickup

Former Arkansas Razorbacks running back Cedrioc Cobbs was arrested Saturday morning in White County in conjunction with a 15th Division Court Pick-up order for willful contempt of court for failure to pay child support.

Cobbs, 33, was transferred to Pulaski County Detention Center, where he was released Monday. A court date has not been set.

A pick-up order was issued by the Circuit Court of Pulaski County’s Domestic Relations Division on April 30 for his failure to pay child support by Nov. 14, 2013, court order.

Cobbs was arrested last year on charges that he attempted to forge a prescription at a local pharmacy.

Cobbs, who ranks fourth on Arkansas’ all-time rushing list with 3,018 yards, played at Arkansas from 1999-2003 and won a Super Bowl as a member of the New England Patriots. He played four seasons in the NFL with the Patriots and Denver Broncos.

Berry, member of ‘25 Little Pigs,’ dies

Lee Roy “Ben” Berry Jr., who played wingback on Arkansas’ 1954 Southwest Conference championship football team, died Sunday in Searcy. He was 78.

Berry, who was born in Stuttgart, lettered for the Razorbacks from 1954-1956. After graduating from Arkansas, he worked in sales and was owner of a travel agency.

HSU, SAU to meet in El Dorado

Henderson State will travel to El Dorado for the second consecutive season to take part in the Murphy USA Football Classic at 2 p.m. Nov. 8 against Southern Arkansas.

“This is a great opportunity to experience a college football game in El Dorado,” Murphy USA Classic chairman Matthew Shepherd said Tuesday at a news conference. “This year’s matchup is particularly exciting as we host two Great American Conference schools with long-standing connections to El Dorado.”

Southern Arkansas will play in the game for the fourth time, having played previously in 2009, 2010 and 2012. Henderson State is ranked No. 8 in the American Football Coaches Association and D2Football.com preseason polls.

UA women ranked 7th, men 13th

The United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association revealed their men’s and women’s preseason polls Tuesday, with the Arkansas women ranked No. 7 and the men ranked No. 13.

The Arkansas women received 283 points and one first-place vote. They are one of two SEC women’s teams in the top 30, with Vanderbilt ranked No. 23. Michigan earned six first-place votes to take the top spot in the women’s poll, followed by Oregon, Florida State, Georgetown and Stanford.

The Arkansas men, the lone SEC team in the top 30, earned 198 points. Defending national champion Colorado earned all 12 first-place votes and is ranked No. 1.
