Rogers High def. Alma

Rogers coach Jeana Breedlove might have had that sinking feeling in the early moments of Tuesday's nonconference volleyball match at Alma.

The biggest volleyball arena in the state hasn't been kind to the Lady Mounties. But Rogers shook off an early deficit and coasted past Alma, 25-22, 25-17, 25-17.

"In this gym, it's hard because of the lighting," Breedlove said. "The girls look up and they lose the ball in those theater lights. It is definitely a homecourt advantage in this gym. I told coach (Rogers assistant Alex Jacobs), any win in this gym is a big win."

Junior Samantha Lassiter had 13 kills to pace the Lady Mounties (2-0) pulled ahead, 15-9, in the opener on Hannah Lloyd's tip. Lloyd finished with a team-high 11 assists, with Madison Van Allen handing out 10 assists.

Alma grabbed a 3-1 lead in the second game on one of Bailey's kills. Later, Jordan Dabdub's ace snapped a 6-6 tie for the Airedalettes. But Rogers surged in front, 19-12, and cruised home for the win.

Alma pulled within two at 9-7 in the third game, but again the Lady Mounties reeled off four consecutive kills and pulled away.
