Transformer Failure Kills Power At Rogers High School

ROGERS -- A power failure late in the school day moved a volleyball game, but classes went on at Rogers High School.

The school lost both electricity and phone service late Monday afternoon, said Ashley Kelley Siwiec, spokeswoman for the School District. Classes weren't canceled and students were dismissed on schedule. A volleyball game was moved to Greer Lingle Middle School because of the outage. A teacher's meeting was canceled.

A backup generator provided some lighting and kept the intercom running, said Jim White, the district's chief operations officer. The power went out about 2 p.m., White said. At 4 p.m., he said he was standing with technicians from Carroll Electric Cooperative who were assessing the situation.

The outage was isolated to the high school, said Nancy Plagge, Carroll Electric spokeswoman. A transformer caused the problem.

Crews were replacing parts to the transformer Monday afternoon and planned to test it early Monday evening. If repairs didn't fix the problem, crews will replace the transformer overnight, Plagge said. Power should be restored by morning.
