Rogers High Top Little Rock Central

LITTLE ROCK -- Senior quarterback Cole Evans scored on an 11-yard touchdown run as Rogers High defeated Little Rock Central 7-0 in a two-quarter varsity scrimmage at War Memorial Stadium Monday night.

The game was delayed by lightning for 30 minutes about six plays into the scrimmage.

In one quarter of junior varsity action, Central prevailed 7-0.

Rogers took a 7-0 lead to the second quarter and the Mounties' triple option offense used almost all of the second quarter clock on a drive that ended deep in Central territory. In the varsity scrimmage, Rogers rushed 30 times for 178 yards.

"We ate the whole quarter up, except for the last two minutes," Mounties coach Shawn Flannigan said. "We started at our 11 and moved to the 20 but got a penalty and had first-and-20. We went for it on fourth down but ended up not getting it. We moved the ball up-and-down the field. I feel real good about what we did offensively."

The Mounties stopped the Tigers on 4th-and-1 early in the first quarter.

Flannigan said linebacker Townsend Wenzler, safety Brett Hauser and defensive lineman Daniel Salvador all played well.

Rogers opens the season Sept. 5 when Siloam Springs visits Whitey Smith Stadium.
