FAYETTEVILLE -- A man suspected of killing his father last week faces a capital murder charge and has been denied bond.

Samuel Hill, 26, of 1693 Morningside Drive in Fayetteville has a Sept. 24 arraignment in Washington County Circuit Court.

Hill is being held at the Washington County jail on preliminary charges of capital murder, aggravated assault on a family or household member, domestic battery, false imprisonment, endangering the welfare of a minor, carrying a prohibited weapon and interference with emergency communications.

Hill had a first appearance hearing Monday and was denied bond on the capital murder charge. Persons charged with capital murder typically are denied bond. Prosecutors will file formal charges against Hill before his arraignment.

Several of the charges are related to a domestic altercation Hill had with his wife before the one with his father.

If convicted of capital murder, Hill faces either life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.

Hill strangled, pushed and kicked his wife Sidney on Wednesday evening, according to an arrest report. Hill held a knife to her throat, dragged her around the house by her hair, hit her head against the tile floor and the refrigerator. He broke her cellphone to prevent her from calling for help and tried to keep her from leaving their house with her 5-year-old daughter, according to the report.

Hill went to his parents' home on Whitehouse Road about five miles outside Elkins after fighting with his wife.

Hill kicked in the door to the home and shot his father, according to an emergency call recording of his mother, Roberta Hill.

When Washington County Sheriff 's Office deputies got to the house about 10 p.m., Allen Hill was on the living room floor. He said his son shot him, according to the report. Allen Hill died later at Washington Regional Medical Center.

Samuel Hill was shot in the hip and treated at the hospital. He was taken to jail Friday night.

A Washington County deputy was also shot.

When deputies arrived at the house on Whitehouse Road, Roberta Hill was hiding outside the house and mistook the deputies for her son, according to the report. She shot Cpl. Taylor Reed and the bullet hit his arm and went into his torso.

Reed had surgery Friday morning to remove the bullet. Reed remained in the hospital Monday, according to a Sheriff's Office spokesman. She didn't know when he will be released.

No charges are expected against Roberta Hill.
