Library hosts

documentaries

The Fayetteville Public Library will host two documentary film screenings as part of the Fayetteville Roots Festival. The films will be "Blue Tattoo," featuring Joe Crookston, at 11 a.m. Thursday and "Folk" at 2 p.m. Friday. Each film will be followed by a discussion with film directors and musicians. The films will be shown in the Walker Community Room and are free and open to the public.

"Blue Tattoo" is a documentary film that tell the story of how folksinger/songwriter Joe Crookston of Ithaca, N.Y., and Holocaust survivor Dina Jacobson of Elmira, N.Y., came together to form a unique friendship with a common sense of purpose.

"Folk" follows singer-songwriters Hilary Adamson, Dirk Hamilton and the trio John Elliott, Raina Rose and Anthony da Costa as they navigate the quirky landscape of American folk across the country. Part music documentary, part road-trip adventure, the film explores how the three very different musical acts all confront the same problem: reaching audiences in the 21st-century. The Fayetteville Roots Festival serves as a backdrop for portions of the film. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with director Sara Terry as well as musicians appearing in the film.
