RIVERBOAT CRUISE FOR ALS

Guests float on paddle boat as bikers pedal in ALS race

While many bicyclists were riding under the morning sun toward Pinnacle Mountain during the third annual Bike and Hike for ALS on Aug. 17, about 50 guests enjoyed the maiden voyage of a sister event, the Riverboat Cruise for ALS.

It is a way to have people involved who can't or don't want to do the Bike and Hike, said organizer Tim Vahsholtz.

A breakfast buffet and entertainment by Chris DeClerk from the band A Weakness for Blondes were also included in the cruise on the Mark Twain. From the water, guests could watch bicyclists on the Arkansas River Trail as the paddle boat headed upriver toward the Big Dam Bridge.

The Bike and Hike and the cruise were started to raise awareness and support for those fighting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease.
