A NIGHT IN WHITE AFFAIR

Sorority's Roundup expands from dance party to church

The setting was all white, down to the draped tables and chairs, the feathered centerpieces, the plush sofas, and the serene statuettes. Perfect, considering the event: A Night in White Affair, held Aug. 15 at the Metroplex in Little Rock and hosted by the Little Rock Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc.

Thus encouraged, guests turned out in their best all-white, or white-dominated, attire. (Many Deltas topped off their looks with accessories in red, the sorority's main color.)

Attendees enjoyed a buffet of heavy hors d'oeuvres and danced the night away to music by SOULution as well as recordings spun by Bill "DJ DollarBill" Slade.

The Deltas presented their first Night in White Affair in 2013 as part of the chapter's Roundup event, previously a one-day call for active and inactive Deltas to commit to serving the chapter for the year and to sign up for various committees. Chapter president Crystal Barker got the idea to expand to a three-day Roundup starting with the party, which is also open to the general public.

The weekend continued with the Aug. 16 meeting for Deltas and an Aug. 17 worship service at Eighth Street Missionary Baptist Church in North Little Rock.
