Washington County Shooting Suspect Faces More Charges

FAYETTEVILLE -- A man facing a capital murder charge now faces assault charges stemming from a fight with his wife about an hour before he shot his father, according to police.

Samuel Hill, 26, of 1693 Morningside Drive faces charges of four counts of aggravated assault, first-degree false imprisonment, first-degree interference with emergency communication, carrying a weapon, second-degree endangerment of the welfare of a minor and third-degree battery.

Hill strangled, pushed and kicked his wife Sidney on Wednesday evening, according to an arrest report. Hill held a knife to her throat, dragged her around the house by her hair, hit her head against the tile floor and the refrigerator. He broke her cellphone to prevent her from calling for help and tried to keep her from leaving their house with her 5-year-old daughter, according to the report.

Sidney Hill had a cut on the bottom of her nose, strangulation bruises on her neck, and bruises on her face, shoulder, back, foot and hands, according to the report.

Hill's rage was sparked after his wife confronted him about drinking too much alcohol, according to the report.

Sidney Hill got into a car to leave and Samuel Hill said he was going into the woods and kill himself since he nothing else to live for, according to the report.

Sidney Hill went to her parents' home in West Fork. Hill went to his parents' home on Whitehouse Road about five miles outside Elkins.

Hill kicked in the door to their home, according to a recording of Roberta Hill's 911 call. "My son just came and shot my husband," she cries and yells on the recording.

When Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies got to the house about 10 p.m., Allen Hill was on the living room floor. He said his son shot him, according to an arrest report. Allen Hill died later at Washington Regional Medical Center.

Samuel Hill returned to his house on Morningside Drive. His father-in-law Bobby Perkins was waiting for him. Perkins said Hill waved a black semi-automatic 9mm handgun at him so he left, according to a police report.

Fayetteville Police arrested Hill and took him to the hospital because he had a bullet wound in his thigh.

When deputies arrived at the house on Whitehouse Road, Roberta Hill was hiding outside the house and mistook the deputies for her son, according to the report. She shot Cpl. Taylor Reed and the bullet hit his arm and went into his torso.

Reed was operated on Friday morning.

"[The] surgery was to remove the bullet that was lodged in his back," Kelly Cantrell, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office, said Friday afternoon. "He is doing well."

"Corporal Reed is an exemplary employee, he's a great family man, great co-worker, a young man that was raised the right way with great values, has a good work ethic, and cares for his community," Cantrell said.

"We don't have a potential release date from the hospital yet on either Taylor or Hill," Cantrell said.

Hill will be taken to the Washington County jail, according to the report.

Capital murder is punishable by life in prison without the possibility of parole or death in the state, according to the Arkansas state law.
