Bauxite's counsel resigns, cites task

Bauxite's city attorney resigned Thursday effective immediately, saying the position diverted "considerable time and resources" away from her private practice.

Pam Perry will continue her job as the city prosecutor, she said in her resignation letter.

"I am resigning my position as City Attorney effective August 21, 2014," Perry wrote in the letter. "It is no longer in the best interests of my private law practice to continue serving the City of Bauxite as City Attorney as considerable time and resources were diverted from my law practice in order to complete the recent [Freedom of Information Act] request of Alderman Mona Struble."

Struble's request included nearly 2,000 pages of emails between Mayor Johnny McMahan and Perry, the mayor said.

In the resignation letter, Perry said completing the request was not part of her job responsibilities, but she did so anyway because "the request was served upon me individually as an attorney."
