Giddy-up: The big weekend for the annual Chuckwagon Races is coming up. While the clinics start this weekend, the main activities such as barrel racing, trail rides, rodeos and, of course, the wagon races, kick into gear starting Aug. 28 and continue through Aug. 31. Pig out: The aromas and flavors of the ever-popular pork product will infuse everything at the first Little Rock Bacon Fest, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds, 2600 Howard St. There will be bacon cooking and eating contests, of course, but also children's activities, music, merchant booths and a beer garden. Tickets are $8 in advance, $10 the day of the event and free for up to two children 8 and under with a paid adult. Those who want to burn a few pre-emptive calories can do so in the 5K fun run/walk at 9:30 a.m. Registration is $45 through Aug. 25, $50 Aug. 26-Sept. 12 and $55 on race day.
