Sutton among eight going into SWC hall

Little Rock Touchdown Club founder David Bazzel revealed Tuesday at the Statehouse Convention Center the names of those who will be inducted in the SWC Hall of Fame.

Inductees into the hall, which currently includes only three coaches from the University of Arkansas, are Lance Alworth, Loyd Phillips, Billy Moore, Leotis Harris, Clyde Scott, Eddie Sutton, Sidney Moncrief, Mike Conley and Melody Sye.

Conley and Sye are former Razorback track and field stars, while Eddie Sutton coached Arkansas’ basketball program from 1974-1985, when Moncrief starred for the Razorbacks. Alworth was a wide receiver for the Razorbacks in the 1960s and has been inducted into the college and pro football Halls of Fame.

Phillips, a defensive lineman, helped Arkansas win its only national championship in 1965 and won the 1966 Outland Trophy. Moore lettered in football from 1960-1962. Harris was an offensive lineman in 1974-1977, and Scott was a running back in 1946-1948 before being chosen eighth overall in the 1948 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Bazzel said the only current members with Arkansas ties are former football coach and athletic director Frank Broyles, former track and field coach John McDonnell and former basketball coach Nolan Richardson.

The Nov. 10 meeting will be at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.
