Freet hired to replace Waddell

Arkansas has hired Chris Freet as senior associate athletic director for external operations and strategic communications, Athletic Director Jeff Long announced Tuesday.

Freet, who worked at the University of Miami the past four years, is replacing Mike Waddell, who is taking a job at Illinois.

Freet will oversee marketing, licensing, media relations, public relations, ticket operations and the Razorback Sports Network and will be the UA’s liaison with the SEC Network, according to a news release.

Freet, who also has worked at South Florida and Oklahoma, will officially begin at Arkansas on Sept. 2. He graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

ASU men release schedule

The Arkansas State men’s team announced their 2014-2015 schedule in a release Tuesday.

The Red Wolves will play in six fall and seven spring tournaments in nine different states.

ASU opens Sept. 8-9 at the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate in Hattiesburg, Miss., before traveling to Memphis for the Memphis Intercollegiate Sept. 15-16. The Red Wolves’ other fall tournaments include the Bill Ross Intercollegiate in Overland Park, Kan. (Oct. 13-14), the Delta Timber/UAM Fall Classic in Cabot on Oct. 20-21, the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational (Oct. 27-28) and the Fall Beach Classic in Gulf Shores, Ala. (Nov. 3-4).

ASU’s spring schedule includes tournaments at the Texas-Pan American Broncs Intercollegiate (Feb. 16-17), the Bash at the Beach in Myrtle Beach, S.C. (March 9-10), the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate in Sevierville, Tenn. (March 16-18), the Florida Atlantic Championship (March 27-29), the Red Wolves Intercollegiate at Ridgepoint Country Club in Jonesboro (April 3-5) and the Oral Roberts Shootout in Broken Arrow, Okla. (April 13-14).

UALR women release schedule

The UALR women’s team has released their 2014-2015 schedule, which includes 10 regular-season matches.

UALR hosts its annual Women’s Golf Classic March 30-31 at Maumelle Country Club.

The Trojans open the season at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational Sept. 8-9 at Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan. The other four fall tournaments include the Louisiana-Monroe Fred Marx Invitational (Sept. 22-23), the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo. (Sept. 29-30), the Missouri State/Payne Stewart Memorial in Springfield, Mo. (Oct. 13-14) and the Blue Raider Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn. (Oct. 20-21).

UALR’s spring season begins Feb. 16-17 at the Delta Gamma Challenge in New Braunfels, Texas. Other spring tournaments include the USA Women’s Invitational in Mobile, Ala. (Feb. 23-24), the Rio Verde (Ariz.) Invitational (March 13-15) and the Kansas City (Mo.) Shootout (April 6-7).

The Sun Belt Championship is scheduled for April 13-15 in Loxley, Ala.

BASKETBALL

UAFS women to play Mississippi State in exhibition

The Arkansas-Fort Smith women’s team will play Mississippi State in an exhibition game Nov. 10 in Starkville, Miss.

A game time has not been announced.

UAFS begins the regular season Nov. 14 against Cameron University at the Stubblefield Center in Fort Smith.
