Close battle in Forrest Wood Cup

Brent Ehrler of Redlands, Calif. leads Bryan Thrift of Shelby, N.C., by three ounces going into today’s final round of the Forrest Wood Cup at Lake Murray in Columbia, S.C.

Ehrler caught five fish Saturday that weighed 13 pounds, 5 ounces to increase his three-day total to 39-1. Thrift caught five fish that weighed 13-14 for a three-day total of 38-14.

Anthony Gagliardi of Prosperity, S.C., is in third at 37-4. Scott Canterbury of Springville, Ala., is in fourth at 37-3, and Casey Ashley of Donalds, S.C., is in fifth at 36-7.

The top 10 will compete in today’s final round.

Rounding out the top 10 are Matt Herren of Ashville, Ala., at 33-1; Michael Woodley of Collierville, Tenn., at 32-13; Scott Martin of Clewiston, Fla., at 32-7; Jacob Wheeler of Indianapolis at 31-4; and Steve Kennedy of Auburn, Ala., at 30-5.

Phillip Jarabeck of Lynchburg, Va., who was leading after Friday’s second round, was eliminated after catching only two fish Saturday that weighed 4-0. That left him 11th at 30-4. Mark Rose of West Memphis finished 12th after catching three fish Saturday that weighed 8-14 to push his total to 28-13.
