SPRINGDALE -- Students at Archer Learning Center will have a new principal this year.

Kirk Freeman, 44, said he began work as principal at the center July 31. Paul Griep, previous principal at the center, became the principal of Central Junior High School on July 25.

The Archer Center is the district's secondary alternative learning environment.

Freeman said he was a math teacher at Springdale High School from 2002 to 2005 before becoming the assistant principal at Northside High School in Fort Smith for four years. He then worked as principal at Northwood Middle School in the Pulaski County Special School District for four years before accepting the position here.

Freedman said Springdale and Springdale School District have grown a lot since the last time he lived in Northwest Arkansas. He said the community's pride in the school is high, and he hopes to continue the progress Griep made at the center.
