Girl Injured On Ride At Benton County Fair

BENTONVILLE -- A teen girl was taken to the hospital Wednesday after she was injured on a ride at the Benton County Fair, according to fair officials.

The girl was on a ride called the Stampede. A pin came loose, allowing a light bar to swing down and strike the girl on the head, according to a news release from the fair.

The accident happened at about 8 p.m. Wednesday. The girl received some staples to her head and was resting at home Thursday, said Eldon Cribbs, a member of the Benton County Fair Board.

"We've been in touch with the family," Cribbs said.

Pride Amusements, the fair's carnival provider, put the Stampede into operation in March. It had been inspected by state inspectors before operation. Fair officials and an assistant fire marshal inspected the Stampede after Wednesday's incident, and the ride has been deemed safe to continue operating, according to the release.

"The state ride inspector has inspected the ride again today before being put into operation (Thursday) evening," the release stated. "This is a very unfortunate accident, and we are taking all precautions to keep the fair a fun, safe family environment."

The fair runs through Saturday.
