Post office closed for hour after fire

A U.S. Postal Service branch in North Little Rock was evacuated for one hour Wednesday morning after a package containing a remote-controlled helicopter caught fire.

North Little Rock Fire Department Chief Al Cerrato said emergency personnel responded about 6 a.m. to the branch at 4700 McCain Blvd. They found a burnt package containing a remote-controlled helicopter outside.

No injuries were reported, though some people complained of minor smoke-related irritation, Cerrato said. The branch was ventilated and reopened about 7 a.m.

Cerrato said it appeared the small fire was sparked by batteries inside the package, but exactly how was unclear.
