Teen held in gunfire that wounded two

A Little Rock teen faces multiple felony charges after his arrest Wednesday afternoon in an attempted robbery that ended in a shooting.

Little Rock police went to the 3300 block of West Seventh Street about 12:30 p.m. for a report of a shooting and then learned that the wounded had already gone to the hospital.

According to police reports, Larry Kilpatrick of Searcy and Enrique Sims of Little Rock went to the area to sell a phone after making an arrangement on Instagram, a social media application available on smartphones.

When they arrived, the buyer pulled out a gun and ordered the men to surrender the phone or he would shoot them, reports said.

Sims dropped the phone, reports said, and Kilpatrick hit the accelerator and they took off north on Brown Street.

The robber started firing as the pair sped off, striking Sims "in the rear end," according to reports, while an arrest report stated that one of the victims was hit in the side.

Around 3 p.m., Yuhanna Simmons was arrested at 3405 Lamar St., just blocks from the shooting, and was identified as the suspect.

Simmons, 17, of 8206 Dreher Lane, will be charged as an adult, according to arrest reports, and was charged with two counts of first-degree battery, two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of committing a terroristic act.

Simmons remained in the Pulaski County jail Wednesday night where he was being held in lieu of a $75,000 bond.

2 arrested in NLR face drug charges

Pulaski County investigators netted drugs, money, weapons and two arrests after a search of a North Little Rock home Monday afternoon.

Narcotics detectives were keeping watch on three people at 6615 Lee Road on Monday, and after the three left the home, deputies pulled over their vehicles for traffic violations.

According to court records, detectives found money transfer receipts accounting for $15,000 moved around to three bank accounts.

Detectives obtained a search warrant for the 6615 Lee Road home and reported finding a methamphetamine lab in "plain view" in the garage and more than 7 ounces of the drug.

Investigators also found several other items of drug paraphernalia, a large amount of cash, a loaded .223-caliber rifle and marijuana and heroin, reports said.

Angelica Chavez, 35, who lives at the address, was charged with six drug felonies including trafficking a controlled substance and simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms.

A second suspect, identified as Jesus Orta, 32, of North Little Rock, also was arrested and faces five drug-related charges, including maintaining a drug premises near a drug-free zone.

Stole storage items, too, suspect admits

A man arrested on theft charges in June faces additional charges after admitting to stealing two vehicles and a trailer from a North Little Rock storage facility, according to an arrest report.

Scott McGinnes was charged Wednesday with theft of property in the theft of an all-terrain vehicle, a Citroen vehicle and a trailer from AAA Mini Storage at 3400 Industrial Center Drive. The vehicles and trailer were valued at about $15,000, according to police.

McGinnes, 44, told investigators that the Citroen vehicle had been cut apart for scrap, according to the report. The date of the theft was not noted in the report.

McGinnes has been held in the Pulaski County jail since June 20, when he was arrested on charges of theft by receiving and theft of property. Late Wednesday, he was being held with bail set at $60,000.
