Bentonville Police To Hold Citizens Academy

BENTONVILLE -- The Police Department will hold a Citizens Police Academy starting in September.

The academy will begin Sept. 18 and end Nov. 6. Classes will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday for nine sessions. There also will be one Saturday event, according to a news release

About 300 people have graduated from the program since it was established in 1999,.

The academy is designed to give the public a working knowledge of the Bentonville Police Department by "understanding through education."

Each week focuses on a different area of the department, including the police dogs, bomb squad, Swat team, crime scene investigations and police officer recruiting and training.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old, complete a background check and live or work in the Bentonville area. Applications can be retrieved from the city's website.
