Ladies Day Out

Ladies Day Out will meet at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 19 in the parking lot across the street from the Bella Vista Town Center Arvest Bank and carpool to Napoli's Italian Restaurant in Rogers. They will then take in a show and/or shop. Reservations: (479) 855-4393.

Christian Women

"What's in Your Closet?" is the theme of the Christian Women's Connection luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at AQ Chicken House, 1925 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville. Mary Lou Powell from Golden, Colo., speaking on"Second Hand Rose." The special feature provided by Powell is titled "Dressing Well on a Budget."

Book Club

The Bella Vista Book Club will meet at 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive, to discuss "Refuge: An Unnatural History of Family and Place" by Terry Tempest Williams.

Modern Quilts

Local quilter Paula Mariedaughter will be the guest speaker at the Aug. 19 meeting of the Modern Quilt Guild of Northwest Arkansas. Her program is titled "Exploring Possibilities."

"Exploring possibilities is my definition of designing our own quilts or redesigning vintage quilts," Mariedaughter says. "A sense of play is central to creativity. Once we learn the basic conventions of quilting, we are free to explore avenues which excite our interests and our passion. Skills and passion propel us forward. Knowing what excites you is the first step in designing."

She will share tips and strategies that work for her in designing her unique quilts. Those attending may bring "orphan blocks," and Mariedaughter and the group will play with the "possibilities" the blocks suggest.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at the Rogers Public Library, 711 S. Dixieland Road.

Nyte Tyme

Bella Vista Nyte Tyme Quilters will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18 at the United Lutheran Church on the corner of Cooper Road and Arkansas 279. This month's program will be presented by Dottie Law. There will also be a show-and-tell portion of the meeting to show personal projects completed.

The quilters usually meet the third Monday of every month except November and December. They are new and experienced quilters who meet to share techniques and project ideas. All are welcome.

Laureate Alpha

The Laureate Alpha Mu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Pat Pershing, 67 Tamworth Circle. The program titled "Television Interviewing Techniques" will be presented by Fern Haskins.

"Ways and places to store and display your photos" will be the presentation topic at the Bella Vista Computer Club meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in the community room of Highlands Crossing Center (lower level), 1801 Forest Hills Blvd. in Bella Vista.

Sunrise Rotary

The Bella Vista Sunrise Rotary Club will be selling hamburger and hot dog meals at the Bella Vista community band concert Tuesday at Blowing Springs Park. The concert starts at 7 p.m., and food service is from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Cost for the meal is $8. All proceeds go to local charities.

The Sunrise Rotary has a breakfast meeting at 6:45 a.m. every Wednesday at the Concordia Retirement Center main building, 1 Concordia Drive, Bella Vista.

Hill Hikers

The Ozark Hill Hikers, affiliated with the American Volkssport Association, invites all club members and other interested walkers to join in Aug. 27 at Pea Ridge National Military Park. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Pea Ridge National Military Park Visitor Center in Garfield. The walk will begin at 9 a.m. from the Visitor Center and follows the course of the events as they unfolded during the Battle of Pea Ridge in Benton County. The walk is on paved roads but is hilly.

Radio Club

The Little Switzerland Amateur Radio Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the physicians building at Mercy Hospital in Berryville. Anyone with an interest in amateur radio is welcome.

The club meets at noon on the second Thursday of the month and at 6:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month.

Bella Vista Lions Club meets at 5:45 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month for a dinner buffet meeting at Concordia Retirement Center's main building, 1 Concordia Drive. All guests are welcome to attend. An optional dinner buffet is offered for $9.

Woodcarvers

The Bella Vista Woodcarvers Club will be demonstrating their carving skills at Tired Iron of The Ozarks at 13344 Taylor Orchard Road in Gentry from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 13. The club will also be demonstrating carving in Bella Vista at Hay Days from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 in Bella Vista.

The club meets from 1 to 3 p.m. each Thursday at Riordan Hall. Guests are welcome.

James Bright

James Bright Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, was host for the 2014 Osage District annual meeting July 26 at the Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers.

Special guests were Mary Deere, new state regent, Benton; Jerrie Townsend, state vice regent, Stuttgart; Sue Thompson, national vice president general, Springdale; and Jeanne Townsend, district director, Fayetteville.

Osage district new officers installed were Sally Jo Gibson, director; Wanda Bautts, vice director elect; La Nita McKinney, secretary; Carol Miles, treasurer; Frances Rankin, historian; and Jeanne Tackett, parliamentarian.

Republicans

Bentonville Republican Women will meet Thursday at the Arvest community room in downtown Bentonville. Networking and social time is held from 6 to 6:30 p.m., with the meeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The speaker will be Margaret Snow speaking on personal property rights. In particular, she will discuss aspects of Agenda 21, FEMA flood plains and forced government insurance. All are welcome.

Altrusa

Altrusa International of Bentonville-Bella Vista meets at 11:30 a.m. on the first and third Tuesday of the month at River Grille in Bentonville. Visitors are welcome.

The group is currently collecting books for Kathryn Lowell to take back to Africa to a preschool that has more than 100 children with seven adults. Members have collected more than 35 books at this time. Walmart recently funded the preschool for a year, bringing in such necessities as a floor, toilet facilities and running water.

Master Naturalists

Northwest Arkansas Master Naturalists Chapter will meet at 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at the Washington County Extension Office, 2536 N. McConnell Ave. in Fayetteville. Social time will be followed by the annual awards program and a general business meeting.
