Pastor Remains In Awe of God's Faithfulness

THE REV. JAIMIE J. ALEXANDER

Senior Pastor

First United Methodist Church

Bella Vista

Q. List your education and work experience. Graduated from Hendrix College in Conway and Candle School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta.

A. What was your call to ministry? I felt called by God into ministry when I was 17 years old. It was the summer before my senior year of high school. The presence of the Lord was so strong -- almost as if he was standing at the foot of my bed inviting me, calling me into ministry. I had never even thought about ministry as my life's purpose, and I went to visit with my pastor. He was surprised that I was one that felt called.

Q. Tell us something most people don't know about you.

A. I love to swing dance. Growing up, I attend the North Little Rock Junior Cotillion program for three years and remained as assistant dance instructor through my senior year of college. It was there that I was taught manners, respect and how to dance. That desire to dance has never faded, although I do not dance often anymore. I jokingly say, "If it was not for weddings, I would not have a social life." I enjoy when I can have fun dancing at a wedding reception! At my age, I also call it exercise!

Q. What is the message you work to share?

A. God is faithful! We can easily lose sight of God's faithfulness in our lives by circumstances and situations. I honestly remain in awe of the magnitude of the faithfulness of God's presence, grace, love, mercy, forgiveness and salvation.

God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.

-- 1 Corinthians 1:9

To me, "faithful" means God is true to his word and promises. God is reliable, trustworthy and believable. I close worship services with the statement. God is faithful in our past, in our present and for our future!

Q. Which part of your job fills the most of your time?

A. Pastoral care and administration, which involves being open to the creativity of the Holy Spirit to touch and transform lives with the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
