The Our House shelter, 302 E. Roosevelt Road, Little Rock, will transport visitors back to Elizabethan England for its annual Shakespeare at the Shelter event, 7:30 p.m. Friday-Saturday. The cast made up of Our House residents will perform scenes from plays including Othello and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Tickets are $20 and the money will be used to improve the shelter's kitchen. Public radio station KUAR-FM, 89.1, and the Old State House Museum, 300 W. Markham St., Little Rock, will team up to screen the 1977 made-in-Arkansas film September 30, 1955, 5:30 p.m. Friday at the museum. Richard Thomas plays a college student deeply affected by the death on that date of movie star James Dean. The cast also includes the late Lisa Blount of Arkansas; the late James Bridges, also of Arkansas, directed. KUAR Station General Manager Ben Fry, who also teaches film history and criticism at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will introduce the film and lead a post-screening discussion. A new exhibit at the Butler Center Galleries, 401 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, examines one of Little Rock's oldest neighborhoods with "Quapaw Quarter: Where Little Rock's History Lives," Friday-Nov. 1. The Thea Foundation, 401 Main St., North Little Rock, introduces an exhibit by Jonesboro artist John Harlan Norris as part of its quarterly The Art Department series. "John Harlan Norris: Cast" opens Friday and continues through the month. Hours are 9 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. The reception, 6:30-9 p.m. Friday, includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, an open bar, music and the chance to win a Norris painting. Cool, sweet fruit by the truckload rolls through Hempstead County during the Hope Watermelon Festival, today-Saturday. Arts and crafts booths, a dog show, softball tournament, chicken dinner and fish fry are scheduled for today and Friday, but it's on Saturday that guests can enjoy the Big Bass Classic, the car show, fishing derby, melon judging, music, races, watermelon-eating and seed-spitting contests.
