Wal-Mart launches Savings Catcher tool

Tuesday, August 5, 2014

Wal-Mart released its new Savings Catcher program to a nationwide audience Monday. The online tool allows customers to comparison shop with Wal-Mart by scanning their Wal-Mart receipts and offers them store credit if they find eligible items at a better price at another leading retailer.

Savings Catcher was tested during the spring and summer in markets including Dallas; Charlotte, N.C.; Huntsville, Ala.; Lexington, Ky.; Minneapolis; and San Diego and was released for use to all U.S. Wal-Mart stores Monday. The store credit comes in the form of a Wal-Mart eGift card that can be used in stores and online.

The tool does the work for shoppers who previously comparison shopped using Ad Match, which required them to take in competitors' advertising inserts or flyers. Using proprietary technology, Savings Catcher looks at other retailers' ads in the market in which the shopper is making a purchase on a certain date.
