Sericia Cole

Where I live: I live in the Austin Lakes neighborhood of Sherwood with my husband, Rod, and children Evan, 15, and Sydney, 19. We are watched over by our guard dog, Max, who is a 2-year-old Yorkie-Poo.

Occupation: I am the director of the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, Arkansas' museum of African-American history and culture at the historic corner of Ninth Street and Broadway in Little Rock. I am also editor-in-chief of PowerPlay magazine, a general interest publication which highlights the African-American community of Arkansas.

My favorite space is: Our living room.

Why? Our living room is the epicenter of our home. When we entertain, it's where our guests sprawl out for the coziness and warmth of the room -- thanks to the fireplace, cathedral ceiling and great street view. It's the perfect setting for the best conversations and movie nights. Our mantel is full of family photographs. The living room is also home to my cherished book collection. So, in rare instances of down time, you are likely to find me here curled up reading either new material or a favorite selection pulled from the bookshelf. I truly believe Marcus Tullius Cicero's saying: "A room without books is like a body without a soul."

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Make more time to be in it.
