Do it yourself
Make decorative flowers -- an easy project for beginners -- using these tips from Syble McCleskey:
• Select three pieces of glassware in graduated sizes -- a plate, saucer and small bowl work well.
• Glue the three pieces together and let them dry completely. She uses GE Silicone II, a paintable silicone caulk, an adhesive.
• Glue a salt or pepper shaker that has a flat edge onto the back of the plate and let it dry completely.
• Insert a dowel or stake into the bottom of the shaker and anchor the other end in the ground.
McCleskey says she leaves her glass pieces outdoors year-round. She sometimes incorporates ceramic pieces into her designs, but cautions that pieces made of pottery or porous materials should be stored inside during the winter.
